A New Month. A New Quarter. Summer is here and Half the Year is over. Honestly, I’m not really a summer person and usually won’t travel overseas during the summer, but this time of year always makes me nostalgic as I remember my first solid step of my journey to Living A Global Lifestyle.
Ever since I was a kid, I’d wanted to Live Abroad. After slugging through summer school for multiple semesters, and earning College credit in high school, I met my goal of graduating College in 3.5 years leaving me 6 months to earn additional travel money after I completed my Work Abroad program in London.
Since then I’ve been lucky enough to live in China, Vietnam, and London again, travel half the world, have a great career in international business, and can now look forward to more international business ventures, traveling the rest of the world, and experience living in more foreign countries. Not bad for a kid from Brooklyn.
A few days ago, I met another young woman from Brooklyn who reminded me of myself. Just as I did years ago, she was leaving the U.S. to live in the U.K Impressively, she had already lived and worked in Egypt helping refugees.
As we talked about my work helping people Live A Successful Global Lifestyle, especially as it pertains to managing their finances, she quickly pointed out the difference between traveling and living abroad, and the importance of understanding how to manage your finances between multiple countries. She sounded enthused, passionate and excited, but also realistic and informed – which is great (Yeah – this young lady gets it!).
We had a great discussion about moving abroad and we promised to connect so I could send her some resources. After the conversation, it struck me that she was already planning so much for her next move abroad – and in some of the most important areas that people often overlook – Finances and Medical Insurance.
She inspired me to reignite our Summer Series – Friday’s Financial Tip for Living A Global Lifestyle and to start a new Summer Bonus Series: Monday’s Moving Abroad Monday Tip.
