A cool part of Living Abroad is you get exposed to a host of different international Holidays, customs and celebrations. Living in China, I discovered not only did they celebrate the Western St. Valentine’s Day, but they also had their own unique Holiday for Lovers, Qixi.  Even international Women’s Day, celebrated in March during Women’s History Month has also become a Global celebration, with countries around the world have events to honor women.

In India and Nepal, people celebrate the Hindu holiday of Holi. Holi Festival is also known as the Festival of Colors and celebrates the beginning of Spring.

The Holi Festival is also seen as a celebration of the triumph of good over evil, and it’s celebrated as a festive and happy day to play, laugh, have fun, and forgive and forget.

People like to celebrate by painting themselves and others around them with dry colors, and water guns (pichkaris).

The Holi Festival last for a day and night, which starts in the evening of (Purnima) or the Full Moon Day.

Happy Holi Festival!
